Home for the Holidays, Kristina, 16
Kristina has been in foster care for 1.5 years after her mother passed away and her father is nowhere to be found.  She had been living with her paternal grandfather and "step-grandfather" until the paternal grandfather died and the "step-grandfather" abused her.  Kristina has a sister (age 21) and two aunts in North Carolina and she wanted to visit with them for the holidays to be with family.  Kristina has anxiety and was beginning to stress about being able to go because case management had not made any provisions for her to do so (and it was ordered for them to do by the Judge).  Kristina is a straight A student and just purchased her first car with money she'd save from her job at McDonald's. Kristina’s GAL stated in her request that “Kristina deserves this little bit of family bonding to make her holidays brighter.”

Thanks to your support, Kristina had a great time at the holidays and continues to build a bond with extended family. Her aunt is the only connection she has to her deceased mother and Kristina has been wanting to know more about her mom since she was 3.  While Kristina could go and live with this aunt - she would then be leaving the familiarity of her high school which she loves. This trip allowed Kristina to get to know family better and understand they are there for her whenever she needs them - now or after college. Her GAL states, “That is huge to a kid who feels like she is all alone and worries so much about her future. Thank you!”
